What we collect
When you simply read the site
Our hosting and network provider records standard server and edge logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referring page, and browser user-agent. These are used to operate the site, investigate faults, and defend against abuse.
When you leave a comment
We store the name, email address and comment you submit, together with your IP address and browser user-agent. Comments are held for moderation before appearing. Email addresses are not published and are not used for marketing.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for, and have no way to obtain, your voter ID number, EPIC number, electoral roll entry, or any other electoral record. Our guides explain how to use the Election Commission’s own services; you enter those details on the ECI’s site, never on ours.
Third parties that receive data
- Cloudflare: all traffic to this site passes through Cloudflare’s network, which acts as our CDN and security layer. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata to deliver pages and filter malicious traffic.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: used on forms and the login page to distinguish humans from bots. It receives request and interaction signals. We use it specifically because it does not require solving image puzzles and collects less than a conventional CAPTCHA.
- Google Analytics and Google Search Console, via Google Site Kit: measure how the site is found and used. Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address and browsing activity on this site.
- Google AdSense: when advertising is enabled on this site, Google and its partners may set cookies and use identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can review and adjust these at myadcenter.google.com.
Webfonts are served from our own domain. This site makes no runtime request to Google Fonts, so reading a page does not disclose your IP address to Google for the purpose of loading type.
Cookies
- Necessary: set by WordPress if you leave a comment (to remember your details) or log in. Reading the site without commenting sets no WordPress cookies.
- Security: set by Cloudflare and Turnstile to keep the site available and filter automated abuse.
- Analytics and advertising: set by Google as described above.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not prevent you from reading anything on this site.
How long we keep things
- Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that conversations remain readable, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Server and edge logs are retained only as long as needed for operations and security.
- Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity first.
Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies, you may also withdraw consent and raise a grievance with us before approaching the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
This site is intended for an adult audience; its subject is voting, for which the minimum age in India is 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Material changes will be noted on the page.
